The Foundation
When he foundationed
He became the rock,
The cobbled base for the home.
He became the nails that hold down pictures,
The tether that keeps wild dogs tied,
The planted feet of a baseball player.
He became the comfort of stability,
Opening his umbrella against the lashing rain,
Holding it over her.
She was a bird who feared flight,
Afraid of the moving clouds,
And jagged mountain peaks.
But he was always there,
The blanket that hides the brilliance of a flashlight,
Hovered over a comic book.
Her foundation.
