Space Girl
The word “space”
What does that mean to you?
To her it means safety
To her it means quiet
To her it means relief from nothing
Other than what's going on in her own mind
The word “space”
It's the name of the vast void
Laying on top of our atmosphere
Filled with stars and planets
That she’ll never get to touch
Or see, not through a lense or screen.
The word “space”
She doesn’t mind being alone
The cold hands of loneliness
Can never seem to hold her
She’s not really sure why she feels this way
But she knows that deep down she still needs connection
The word “space”
A little astronaut alone with her thoughts
A space girl who just needed to go
Seeing the earth as an observer outside of it
Her tether is thick holding her to the earth
So she doesn’t fly too far away
The word “space”
She tries to connect
She tries to speak
But it’s like speaking to black holes
That steal from her till there’s nothing left
So she puts her heart in a bottle
The word “space”
A big nebula of spinning stars and light
In constellations of diamonds
A universe reflects in her eyes
As she drifts throughout the galaxy
A vacant void of pure beauty
The word “space”
She has who she has, and she loves who she loves
She has friends and family who support her
But she still needs that distance
Even if now, if only sometimes
But she knows that they’ll wait for her
The word “space”
It may not mean much to you
But it means everything to me
