The Rainbow Song
"Why are there so many songs about rainbows?
And what's on the other side?"
I am the one who wrote
songs about rainbows
'Cause I'm from
The Other Side.
From my illusions
came hallucinations
and my past is what lies behind.
I had no reason
to hide from the seasons,
but I didn't want to see you cry.
You were upset
about something confusing.
I couldn't help you,
but I also didn't try.
And I'm so sorry
for hiding from worries,
but no connection could hide
your sighs.
And this is what it is:
the rainbow connection.
But it wasn't really a connection,
'Cause I hid from you
and severed the bond we worked so hard
to persevere through.

The beginning of this poem says,
"Why are there so many songs about rainbows?/And what's on the other side?" This quote is from the beginning of the song "The Rainbow Connection" from the Muppet Movie. I wanted to answer the question that is asked at the beginning of this song, so I came up with this story that essentially says that the reason that there are so many songs about rainbows is that rainbows are a lot easier than talking about what really hurts. Rainbows symbolize happiness and goods things, but by going over the rainbow, you're hiding from your feelings and what's really going on in life.
