On That Day
On that day
In school but no studying
Teachers on stage but no teaching
No more silence but shouting out loud
On that day I graduated
Hot wind blowing the classroom
Fan spinning toward the students
All presenting summer is coming
So different than the past summers
People hugging, laughing, crying
Talking the past 6 years of time
On that day I grown up
Leaving closest friends, dearest teachers
I step out the school gate
Facing an uncertain, new start

I’m a senior student in East West School of International Studies located in Flushing, New York. My teacher give us an assignment named “I remember….” To write a poem based on that. So I remembered when I was in elementary school back in China and the day I graduated. It meant a lot to me because I spent six years of life in that school and I had a lot of good memories. The next year I immigrated to America and started a new life here. It marked a turning point in my life.
