A Lonely Waltz

Sometimes, I imagine myself

Waltzing in a desolate ballroom.

The lavish room

Is corroded by time.

Dark and ghastly,

But still sparkling behind

A thin layer of grime.

I’d step in time with fanciful shoes

And nobody could refuse

While I swing and sway,

Dancing the night away.

And my arms would stretch and cup the air,

Or my fingers would run through silky hair,

Curls of gold resting upon

A shoulder coated in chiffon.

While I twirl and turn,

The silence burns.

Ringing out into the air,

Singing its eerie tune of despair.

Its everlasting song

Plays not for long.

This poem is about escapism through imagination and an inescapable loneliness.
