The Snowball Effect

The ocean's depths are rising high,

As warming waters make a cry,

The ice caps melt, the glaciers go,

The sea creeps in, an insidious flow.

The tide marks inch up the shore,

Asking us what we have in store,

The waves crash in, with angry force,

The coastlines falter, with no remorse.

The beaches shrink, the dunes erode,

The sea walls break, the homes explode,

The saltwater poisons the freshwater,

A disaster, a crisis, a fatal quagmire.

The coral reefs gasp for breath,

The fish flee, with their last breath,

The shells crumble, the algae bloom,

The ecosystem falters, the future's gloom.

The ocean's rage is hard to tame,

As it takes away, what was once our claim,

The storms grow stronger, the winds blow faster,

The hurricanes hit, the damages master.

The coastlines bear the brunt of it all,

As the sea levels rise, and the land does fall,

The people suffer, their lives in limbo,

Their homes submerged, their dreams in bimbo.

The ocean's power is vast and wide,

It's time to listen, before we collide,

With the consequences of our deeds,

And the ocean's wrath, that will feed.

The world needs to act, to reduce the heat,

To save the ocean, to make it complete,

We must reduce our carbon footprint,

To halt the rise, and end the stint.

The ocean's fate is in our hands,

We must protect it, with all our stands,

For if we fail, the cost is too high,

And the world will never see the sky.
