i just am
i stop to rest
listening to the whistling of wind,
singing a newly minted tune just for me
the grass under my toes
tickles me as i breathe
in deeply, cold air expanding in my chest.
sunlight warms my skin,
spreading from my chest to my limbs
spreading like butter
melting slowly but surely.
my fingers trace dissipating goosebumps
each nub disappearing under the warmth of my fingertips
the honey light of the sun
seeping into my brown eyes.
i wiggle my toes
relishing the soft earth shifting underneath my heels
and my tired eyes close.
just for a moment,
for a small moment,
i just am.
