The Intimacy Of Time

My same cracked lips that long-windedly mouthed “It's okay”

Hum a hymn to all that has come and gone.

Know that when wrinkling my closed eyes

I’m wishing to the skies,

things ended differently.

Because The During was closure with the door half open.

The type of ajar where you stub your toe,

But have to walk it off with a smile.

I know I’m changing with the tides.

Today has turned into a memory.

Tomorrow is the now.

Sometimes you are 17 giving permission to be used,

Forgetting that not everything is constant.

Taking showers morning noon and night.

With emerald eyes and

an aura of divine wanting,

That drips from freckled cheeks.

I didn’t want this to be a life lesson,

Time had other plans.

It's July,

But I remember the way October felt.

If we met again under the falling crisp crimson leaves,

Back to Autumn who viciously blinded intuition,

I’d be a liar if I said I would walk away.

You stained me,

With a permanent resin, carbon black ink.

Time took away my knowledge of intimacy.

My muse for the angered silence.

In time I put my trust,

I thought time would change your mind.

I know time with you went on far too long.

I don’t trust time right now.

Time took more than he gave.

But one day,

One moment,

The intimacy of time will return.

The intimacy of time will take my hand,

The intimacy of time will take me to the same mirror I once cried to,

And dip my palms in tepid water

One day,

The intimacy of time will wash away

My blemished mind,

So I’ll learn to love not to loathe unfinished business.

Time allows us to heal. Time feeds us acceptance in the hardest of moments. I wrote this poem as a way to give myself the closure I never got.
