I lay on my back on my front porch

It's past midnight and I should be asleep

I push the thought out of my head and instead focus on the stars above

I think about how constellations are an entirely man-made concept, how mankind decided that there is indeed a story in everything

I think about the moon and how everyone in the world, all seven billion of us, look up at the same moon every night

That even when I, in Pennsylvania, can not see the moon, someone across the world just like me can

I think about death and a life after this

How maybe one day I will become on of those stars I’ve spent all night looking at

I think about the butterfly effect, about how everything I’ve done has impacted everything else

I smile at the fact that I’m pretty sound in my choices

As I lay on my back, on my front porch, I stare at the sky, all the way up there, far away from me in all of its glory

I think about all of its stars, and the fact that some of the stars we see are dead and we’re looking at the past

I think about the death of us and the death of them, that death does not necessarily mean gone

And of course I think about the skys main feature, the moon

I think about the moon and by that I mean I think about you
