A Tribute to Anne Frank

Two years trapped in the annex, desperate to escape.

The annex hugged on to the eight of them in hiding.

Anne was like a light in a dark room, always brightening up the day.

Despite the sounds of war and chaos just outside her window,

Anne always found a way to stay optimistic.

With her lively personality,

She washed out the fear and spread hope to all around her.

The annex is a clown car,

All clumped in together.

With no personal room and a scarce amount of items.

All Anne tasted was a desert, from her lack of food.

Though you could see the agony in everyone’s face,

Anne believed that they would get through this.

Whether it be a hundred years,

they would get through it.

In times of uncertainty, Anne wrote in her diary that her father gifted her.

Writing was her passion, she always dreamed of becoming a journalist.

It was the one thing she could speak her mind to, unlike her mother.

She filled the crisp pages with her thoughts and feelings that never passed her lips.

Anne had hope in everyone.

She wrote that “everyone was good hearted.”

Even when people were out to murder her friends, her family, and herself.

Even when people forced her to leave her beloved home behind.

Even when she was locked up in the annex, like a bird in a cage.

Even with all of the cruelty, she still believed everyone had good somewhere in them.

Before Anne was forced to leave the Annex,

She touched her beloved diary for the last time.

Though Anne could no longer share her bits of hope anymore, her diary did for her.

She left behind a legacy that will pass on for ages.

From this powerful story, I will bear witness by passing it down to the new generations, in hope that they can learn about this tragedy and power against Anti-Semitism.
