It's not just the tens of paths walked

Thousands of steps taken

The colors that have changed, snowflakes fallen,

Bug bites scratched or flowers bloomed

It is the warmth of of a Welcoming winter coat

The security of my sand colored weighted blanket

The itchiness of wool and cotton fibers tangled against your ankle

The sweat seeping between your toes

The dirty marks left in the soles of your shoes

Hundreds of Liters of water consumed

Millions of leafs crunched into the forest floor

The unique footsteps carved into the bare ground

The zig zag and blobs of color emerging from the cage they are tied into

It is carved out by the tears cried

Friends forgiven

Relationships strengthened

Most of all,

It is carved out by the personal toll taken

The tsunami of thoughts that carve your mind

The search for the needle in the haystack

The author's comments:

Ever since I was little, My family took trips to national and state parks around the United States. Now that I am older, I began to appreciate more not just the scenery and hike but how I would finish the hike with a new sense of familiarity and love for the feelings associated with completing something. Hiking its not just a path for you to walk on, but a path of self discovery.
