Advice to Younger Self

Growing up doesn’t mean you fit in

Those kids are immature now

They’re loud and rowdy and oh, you can’t stand them!

They never listen, we don’t understand how

The only one who can mature is you

A feat easy to none

They’ll jeer about your hair, your body, your face

And your heart, second to one

How tired you’ll be, trying to be anyone else

To be happy, is what you think

Your future self will thank you for being just the same

As your life is gone in a blink

Some people know why they were bullied or isolated as kids once they get to my age. They have some sort of idea of what set them apart. For me, I don't have any idea. Forever and always I've felt either a step ahead or behind my peers, but I think part of this poem is accepting that was alright. I didn't need to be on par with everyone else, and I could take my life at my own pace; I only wished I had realized it sooner.
