“the greatest pleasure is giving pleasure”

I look up out the window and see many wonderful fig trees

I see the purplish reflection of each fruit, I see the way they glimmer in the sunlight.

I’ve never had a fig before, but in this season I can imagine the taste on my tongue and the hunger only grows.

I want all of your red, yellow, purple, and green, I want it all.

My only wish is to hold you in my palm, squeeze you and feel your bittersweet juice seep into my mouth.

I’m tempted to leap through the window.

I want to feel the grass between my toes, I want your dirt to cover my feet.

I could never mind embracing your filth as long as you fill my mouth and head.

You don’t know what love is, for you’ve never looked at my roots and felt your stomach cave in.

You don’t know what love is, and so I find myself waiting under your cool shade for the right time to pick from you again.

This poem was written months after I lost my first love. I tried to encapsulate the conflicting state of mind where you both love and hate someone.
