“There’s many other fish in the sea,” they all would say,

With a grin on their face and a shameful look of dismay,

He isn’t just another fish in the sea,

I see the light of his soul, the character beyond his guise,

I see his smile lighting up a bad night.

But I know him, I emphasize that I really do,

He’s beyond his flesh,

In his words, a world so coy,

Every scar, every little line, a story to tell,

In the depths of his eyes, I blissfully admire,

Where one finds a flaw, I find endless beauty.

He is like no man I’ve ever known,

Our auras connect like stars in a cosmic dance,

A harmony of souls in serendipitous glance,

He showed me what true love is like,

In our chests, a constellation formed, my heart aligning with his,

He taught me how I should be treated,

Not like I am a heart of stone, numb to a broken heart.

Even though he is a human, I find him to be like home,

I find comfort in his presence, dearness in his soul,

I take in his spirit with joy and love,

In his gaze, I find a sanctuary, a haven of untold emotion.

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by a transformative friendship that blossomed during my early high school years. It captures the essence of a unique bond I formed with a classmate who was often misunderstood and overlooked by others.

He was new to the school and didn't quite fit into the conventional social circles. Despite his apparent shyness and the quietness that surrounded him, I discovered an incredibly rich inner world when I got to know him. He had a passion for astronomy, a quirky sense of humor, and a perspective on life that was both profound and refreshing.

Our friendship grew from shared lunches and long conversations under the old oak tree in the schoolyard. I learned to see the world through his eyes – a world filled with wonder, curiosity, and an appreciation for the small, often unnoticed, beauties of everyday life.
