The story of a small child, who looks at herself in the mirror.

Defiant, as if she were trying to challenge the reflection,

the girl who wears a bubblegum onesie, complete with fur details on the neck, legs and tail: she’s wearing a poodle costume.

I still don’t know which prompt to choose

it doesn’t come naturally to me anymore.

like many things that happened during those two years,

it doesn’t come to me like it used to.

Flowers waving in meadows, or my favorite weather, flood:

roads filled with water, the roof of the house, soaked, taking a shower.

The city, looking yellow and barren

like a video game landscape. The buildings are blue

compared to the heat of the red, setting sun,

so big it looks like it might actually drop and kill us.

I can concentrate on the music playing in the background, but not the words I will produce.

I spend more time picking at the piece of paper on my desk,

Worrying about my notes app,

“part of science reading”

“act section (?)”

the gum wrappers at the bottom of my backpack,

unfinished knitting.

This piece is a zuihitsu poem, taken from a workshop we did in my English class - during the workshop, I was challenged to look at the ways in which my poetry and my writing intersect, in theme and in message.
