An event that made me laugh

An event that made me laugh was when I was at work with my friend, Eli. We worked the same day together, every scheduled week, no matter who else worked. Still to this day, we work the same night together. I always look forward to these nights, knowing that although I have to work, I get to do it with my best friend.

Saturday Night. 09/02/2023.

It was the end of the shift after a long night of hard work. Eli and I started to close “our” bussing station. I was helping him roll silverware and polish the glasses. I went to take a drink out of my glass to cure my seemingly everlasting thirst, when all of a sudden, I choked on an ice cube. I spat the ice out at Eli on accident in the most humorous and noisiest way possible. It was as if I was a cartoon character who had made a real-life Looney Tunes sound effect. I started to die of laughter as I was trying to catch my breath. The staff in the kitchen started to laugh as they gained realization as to what just happened. Eli was also laughing so hard at the fact that I just threw up an ice cube as I failed to swallow properly. I was hurtled over with my back towards the ceiling as if I were stretching to touch my toes.

The ice cube remained on the floor after it off of Eli. Shortly after we all got a great laugh, one of our servers that night, Brandon, walked in the kitchen doors. I turned around and warned him as he walked our way.

“Watch out!! There’s an ice cube right there!” I pointed to the floor where the quarter-sized ice cube lay.

Surely enough, Brandon took a step with his right foot landed directly on the ice cube, and slid forward as he unintentionally did the splits–his legs completely went opposite directions as he slid.

“No way!” Eli shouted while laughing even more.

Everyone in our radius erupted in laughter as we watched the hilarious series of events unfold before our eyes. This whole event took place within a minute and a half. I will never forget the great laugh I got out of that night at work, it is a memory that will last with me until the day I die.

I first used a short paragraph/sentence to not only shorten the length of the story but to give a straightforward detail of the event that made me laugh. This stylistic device eliminates any possible confusion in the sentence involving it and provides uniqueness to the story. The second stylistic device I used was a simile, comparing my actions to that of a cartoon character, used to contrast that I did something in an “unreal or silly” way. Finally, I incorporated the dash to add an extra detail to the situation which was when Brandon slipped on the ice cube.
