It hits sundown
after a day of lounging at the beach,
and I look into the mirror,
to see my mother staring back at me in my reflection.
I saw her freckles splattered
all over my face.
Too many too count.

I look at my arms and legs and see freckles multiplying.
The freckles danced
from her skin to mine
through the sunbeams.

Her green eyes shine through mine, as I bat my eyelashes,
I see her motherlike stare,
on my freshly toned skin.

I wrote this poem about my self image. I looked in the mirror and examined by freckles that are identical to my mother, so I decided to incorporate my mother into this poem and make my features she gave me shine through.
