In the fields where life once bloomed,

Dead grass now stands, it is not assumed.

Its golden hue, a quiet charm,

A testament to nature's calm.

Though it may seem lifeless and dull,

Dead grass holds stories, never null.

It whispers tales of seasons past,

Of summer's warmth and winter's blast.

It brittles blades, a work of art,

A canvas for memories, a fresh start.

For in its withered state, we find,

A beauty unique, one of a kind.

So let's applaud the dead grass grace,

It's resilience in every space.

For even in its final breath,

It teaches us the cycle of life and death.

The author's comments:

I wanted to write a poem that glorifies something that typically is not. When thinking about this I thought of how things in nature die and regrow and how we can learn a lot from nature if we just stop and think about it. It is truly a beautiful thing, how nature represents the cycle of life and death or new starts. I'm a senior in high school getting ready for this part of my life to change and fade away into something new. And as I was writing this poem I tried to encapsulate my feelings and represent it through the life of grass. I think anyone who has been through change or going through change can relate to this story of grass and the life changes it faces.
