Longing for Summer

February 1, 2024
By Anonymous

Sitting in class, wearing an itchy sweater,

feeling the freezing wind through the window,

Thinking deeply, wishing it were June 7th.

Sitting by the pool, itching at an old mosquito bite,

I go inside to seek shelter from the sweltering sun.

Feeling the rush of cold from the air conditioner.

Remembering I'm not a good listener.

This is bliss.

The mosquito bite doesn't bother as much as the sweater.

Cold from the air conditioner brings relief from the sun,

But this isn’t as much fun.

Going out in nothing but shorts feels like a treat.

Remembering the layers on my sheets.

I walk on the snow, but I still feel the wet reach my toe.

Memories flood my brain like the snow floods my shoe,

standing at the shoreline as my feet get soaked feeling true.

All I can think of is summer.

Winter is such a bummer.

But as summer wraps around all I can feel is sweat,

Wishing it were cold with my winter mindset.
