Looking out on the gravel driveway

My dads blue 4runner sits

 green kayak on the roof

4 bikes hanging on the rack

And bags full of clothes and shoes in the back

We leave early

An 8 hour trip

No cars in sight

At 4 am in the morning

Then it suddenly turns 8

Driving on the interstate

Then we are in the heart of the big apple

Sticking out more than

A pimple on a young kids face

Truck drivers, locals, saying

“Look at those stupid tourists”

Stuck in traffic

Face to face

People looking through the windows

While I'm trying to not look them in the face

Phew! My mom says once we get out

5 more hours of calm relaxing driving

Listening to my fathers horrendous music taste

Driving up the coast

Seeing other vacationers

Finally fitting in

We reach our place

Driving through the little town

Everyone looking

Laughing at the big pickle on the top

I'm trying to duck

Out of sight

But how could you

When your the most vibrant thing

In plain sight

I wrote about a time I felt judged, and I wrote about when I go on our annual vacation to cape cod I feel judged because we are tourists.
