"Stand before the people you fear and speak your mind – even if your voice shakes." — Maggie Kuhn

You are the promise of eternity

even once my bones are free

from the traits of life arose

a down and peak of realization

that life you promise

would all but fall behind

true you promise eternity

but when I run to the rain

when I am swept away with the tide

you will not follow

you will stay inside

where the warmth and safety of forever

can linger

but not in the waves on the shore

and not in the race but on the sideline

so making it true

even though my love for you is great

I find that I must live

my faster paced life

and you must stay in the promise once given

in yesterday

a fantasy of what forever could have been

you were the promise of an eternity of love

and I am as fast as the shooting stars in the sky

that will not stay forever

or last long before burning out.

The author's comments:

This poem represents a very sad part of my life as well as many other peoples, as young adults figuring out what kind of people are going to be supportive for the rest of my life. I have struggled with many broken hearts, and Iv'e had to realize that some people even if you love them will not give you the life you hoped for.

This is exceptionally beautiful. I love the imagery, and especially the line 'and you must stay in the promise once given in yesterday'. Really thought-provoking and, to me, bittersweet. The feeling of letting go. The poem itself is hard to follow, and I like that- it gives the feeling of racing thoughts, disorganized yet connected to each other by threads of a spiderweb. Please keep writing, you're doing wonderful.
