The Move for College
A small town by the beach in Florida,
My home only a brisk walk away,
Sandy shores and the constant white noise of waves
Where summer seems to never end
And the UV is always high
The days are passing quick as a new adventure awaits
A five hour drive away a soon to be home waits
Where all four seasons come and go
This is the new place I will seek when I say I am going home
Changing from tanning at the beach,
To tanning on a lawn
I fear I will miss the horizon I so long
The early mornings, searching for shells in the salty air
Can’t be replaced or compared
I’ll always long for what seems so familiar
Even though a fresh start is what I dream
Surround by new friends and experiences,
I will learn to cherish what once seemed daunting
I ponder if the beach town that watched me grow
Will become only my second home
Visiting solely on breaks and spontaneous occasions
The memories will start to slip
Living vicariously through old images
I will always remember my happiness in the sand
