Together
Together they stood, intertwined and whole,
Through black curls, her bitten fingernails trailed tenderly,
Ever quietly, collecting the water from my cheek,
Refilling herself to feed me, her gaze rosy and warm,
She carried me close, a world unknown, it was her I chose.
Now it is my own bitten fingers that hold her fragile frame,
Because she once did the same.
Hands upon wrists, a silent vow,
To heal her scars, to soothe her now,
It never occurred that soon together would end with someone else forever.
