Favorite Quote:
"I don’t love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz,
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as one loves certain obscure things,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul."
- Pablo Neruda

You crawled back to me as

a parasite of one fixation.

An illicit fascination interests me,

with a love far from pure.

Your charred sovereignty

ruled me by invasive greed.

Slowly, you reduce me to ashes by

your touch that’s ingrained in my skin.

You who was once euphoric,

Has now become eternally cannibalistic.

My body permanently laced

with your carcinogenic aroma,

         my words versed with your

         cruel dictations, and

                  my thoughts trapped in your

                  gray, murky, limbo.

Never do I walk oblivious

to your existence.

Today when dawn breaks,

you chill me with a virulent kiss–

Leaving me as you did with

the beautiful Annabel Lee.

A sober understanding comes over me

that I can no longer be without you. Now,

I crawl back to you as

a parasite of one fixation.

The author's comments:

This is the first poem I have ever published, and it resonates with me greatly. I have been surrounded by addiction my entire life, both physical and mental. It truly is a parasite and is very hard to handle. I wish that someone will read this and know that they are not alone.
