Waking To Nature
days are longer
yet time passes the same
wisps of summer foreshadow
camping in the backyard
and biking until we’ve gone far
conversing without fear
knowing true adolescence
will be gone
in a year’s time
so cheers,
skol,
egészségére
to summer sunrises and tan skin
academia ceases to weigh down
when schoolbells no longer ring
with so much time,
minds devoid of uselessness
begin to sing.
“spend the time remaining
with family and everyone who cares
drugs, leave them lost in snares.
make new friends
smile from the car, or the bike
crack a joke at the campfire,
or wherever you were tonight.
embrace complexity,
rejuvenate yourself in baths,
refine your personality
and everything
that lasts.
mend friendships
with those whose lives were stole,
and in the front of the train,
kick up the coal.
find the firestarter
and light the match
start the engine
and watch everyone hatch.
showcase ideals,
for you are on a mission
to find people
that won’t be against
your wild ambition.
expect nothing
but somewhere hope for more
because disappointment can’t walk
through a closed door.
we are romantics, poets, artists,
never conforming, never defined,
i always knew
i was born in the wrong time.”
and while june of ‘24 lasts
transitioning into july
and august just as fast
check every box
before you spend these moments
diluted with debts to pay
and beautiful children to raise,
forever know
this life isn't a haze.

"Waking To Nature" was workshopped in a poetry class I took at my high school. It encapsulates the summer between junior and senior year. Also, "Waking To Nature" is a poem from my collection (created in the class) titled This Burning Dystopia, where the theme of fleeing betrayal is prevalent throughout.
