Summer Days
Summer Days are filled with the sun glaring at my face,
Summer Days are waking up in the afternoon and trying to recall that dream I had.
Summer Days are days that I’m left alone with my thoughts,
which can be good or bad.
Summer Days is the red dirt swirling in the sky,
or the chocolate ice cream from Braums at 6:00.
Summer Days are humid and tiring and joyful.
Summer Days are filled with you running in my mind,
so fast I can’t catch you and can’t think about the dreaded words.
If I love you or if we’re just friends.
And when the words pop up I shove them away
Because I can’t think because it’s too hot,
too humid,
too much sun with too much heat.
Oh, please, I feel like I can’t handle it anymore.
Because I can’t think,
and so I shove the words away.

This piece is really about the thoughts that go around in my head. It’s also about what summer reminds me of. Of course, I love summer, but sometimes, summer isn’t always the best.
