Perfectly Imperfect
Fly,
As far as you can.
Fly,
fail,
fail, and try again
Never stop,
never slow,
First chances are bought,
second chances must make you grow
But,
What if I slow?
and, like an empty screen, dimly glow?
What if I fail to show?
and, with an empty spotlight’s chill, couldn’t go?
What if the next chance never shows,
stunted by the tragedy of what I could know?
The blossoms of trial have bloomed
spirits of startled sounds: untombed
Broken pieces, broken vials
Can I work without my rival?
Won’t I lay down the rifle?
to walk down life’s aisle,
and embrace the greater finals?
Do I really need to shout “mistrial”,
deluding myself in denial,
when perfectly imperfect adorns life’s tile
