Hypocrisy
At the [end] of the pier
there is nothing.
It cuts off sharp
ly to yield to
an endlessly deep well of water
and an endlessly expansive shock of sky.
Today, this opus framed,
ringed round by sculptured,
candy-yellow clouds
held to earth by our thin chains
of smoke.
They are curling
and twisting their way
up from countless matches
{discarded in disgust}
now congregated about
the –unholy–
pair in the picture.
They sit on the ground, and
lean on each other.
