Mirror

You know there’s nothing I can do
But hold you and let the pain course through your heart
You stare into a silver mirror
And hand it to me
What have I become? you ask
I can only shake my head
I hope one day you’ll know
That at least I tried
And that every day of my life
I go through each step of the journey
And ask myself
If there is something that could have changed the outcome
I guess
We’ll never know
But this mission was doomed from the start
The moment the mirror hit the floor
And shattered
You were already gone
