Boys Can Cry
In a world of such heterosexual privilege,
is it possible that a boy can cry
without being called a homo?
Ask Teena Brandon, Brandon Teena, rather,
whose mental self and physical self were mixed up, like grey matter.
Inside she was a boy, outside she was a girl,
So how would she fit in in this cruel, strange world?
Cute her hair, drop her voice, walk with a male swag,
flirt with all the girls a guy could ever have.
Meet a girl you love, with all of your heart,
and hold onto her, like a locket in parts.
Much calamity ensued,
and Teena Brandon's life was through
But to those who rep Nebraska,
it wasn't nothin' new.
In a world of such gay-bashing
and hate crimes on the rise,
i find it very comforting
that Boys Can Cry.
