Snowing Leaves
It's snowing leaves outside
so cool and amber and crisp
Get lost in the glories of childhood
surrounded by so much bliss
Remember when we made piles
of the amber and brown glow?
Remember how we slid in it?
And it will seem so long ago
Soon we'll be too old to have fun
or so as we'd be told
It's reading and schoolwork all day long
as life starts to unfold
Today we are still kids
wearing ponytails, laughing, having fun
But tomorrow we'll be "adults"
(It's an excuse to take away our sun)
I see the us in tomorrow
too old to make piles or laugh
tomorrow it's essays
and reports and questions and graphs
Let our future go free!
and fly where it wants to be
Of course those are useful skills
but let our future go free
