Grandma Irene MAG
I learned from you
how to overflow the cinnamon-sprinkled batter
with semi-sweet morsels.
I learned how to scoop eggshell
out of the oil and sugar of the dough,
yolk dripping down the frosted mixing bowl
like the water pitcher
sitting in a ring of condensation.
I learned how to go unnoticed
sliding my cool finger inside the whisk,
and how to laugh
while your eyes tighten into a knowing glare,
and you stick a brightly painted acrylic back under the tool.
From you
I learned to revive a watery frosting,
how a little chocolate can fix any crumbled edge,
And I learned that powdered sugar
was like another stitch into your sweater.
