Origami Sails
I, an inebriate of this world
Drunken with its ignorant bliss
My lips tainted by slander and calumny
I blaspheme against the one I hold most dear
Forgive me
For tonight I break bread and dine in the halls of Bacchus
In my folly, I commandeer my ship
A folded paper boat through the tempest of life
Staring up at the pantheon of stars
At the glittering gods I gaze
Oblivious of the maelstrom
That swallows, swallows my origami sails
My lungs saturated, my ears filled
With the sea’s truncated symphony
The wave’s permeating sonata
Whispers soft, whispers harsh
Wake up wake up wake up
Thou starry starry sleeper
Open open thine eyes oh aged babe
Awashed ashore I look to sea
It ebbs it ebbs
It’s throbbing womb gives birth to the rising sun
I cry out
The sea has taken taken all I ever wanted
It was to be among the stars
