Testing the Animal
What should I do?
Can anyone see?
Oh, the terrors, the horrors,
That rest inside me.
The animal that sleeps,
A wolf waiting on the prowl;
For the ear-splitting call,
Of its alpha’s solemn howl.
The emptiness, the loneliness;
No one understands,
What it’s like to feel vicious;
To be a demon, once man.
I long for the hunt;
I thirst for the thrill,
Of my quarry’s sudden silence;
Of the one-strike kill.
But my fear of what happens,
When murder sits on my chest,
Makes me draw back my claws.
I’ll never pass this test.
