This is for them.
this is for the boy
headed off for war
straight out of high
looking for something more.
looking for adventure
and a noble cause.
willing to give up everything
to secure our laws.
this is for the girl
standing on the front line
weight of the gun in her hand
desert sun in her eyes.
thinking of her baby
and her husband back at home
even with her comrads
she's never felt so alone.
this is for the man
standing in the crowd.
uniform so neatly pressed
you never saw someone so proud.
this is for the mom
who never said good-bye
but boldly marched on
looking death in the eye
this is for the elder
sitting in that chair
hasnt been able to stand
since the war had put him there.
this is for the patriots
who stood when their nation called.
this is for the men and woman
who fight for what we love.
this is for the symbol
that brings our nation hope
the iconic red,white,and blue flag
who boldly shines within the smoke.
this is for those
who must not be forgot
because if they had never paid the price
our sweet nation would be lost.
so maybe if you could
just get down on your knees
and humbley pray thanks
for those who fought and fight for you and me
