The Old Yellow House in the Woods
I am from a big red bed warm and inviting
From lacrosse sticks and microwaves
I am from hard red shutters on soft blue paint
Slippery hardwood floors
I am from small pine trees on the side hill
The big old tree in the front lawn
Whose limbs are long gone from the storm
I remember as if they were my own
I’m from Sunday dinners and Thursday night pizza
And responsibility
From John and Noreen
I’m from taking out the recycling
From nervous gasps
And staying at the table way after dinner for a few laughs
I’m from the truth will never get you in trouble
Do it with out being asked
And don’t sweat the small stuff
I’m from Saturday cleaning
I’m from Suffern
And Silgo and Galway
Chicken parmesan
And skirt steaks
From Old Bugsby
Laughing hysterically when it’s not that funny
The old tractor
The old yellow house in the woods.
