Distinction
If this mortal life be brief --
I would wish one to argue!
It is well to make distinct your
Self
in the glorious fruition of the living soul
that resides within all us now,
now a central point,
cardinal North--
rather than to wait a time
for the outward husk
to be made less of,
unable a transference of thought,
all by the hands of Time.
Make it known to the far, far reaches,
and those so near;
close their proud afflictions,
least those ably done.
Certainly, to ask them of your own.
And, of course, I am not exempt!
All you, all you great many people!
You builders, you poets,
you poor, you wealthy,
you any hue that is your own,
build your empires, the heavens reached,
pen your verses, none too weak!
For, verily, what are we but the two?
One to further creation,
one to record its happenings!
(One's social holding does little
to propose a new current
for those that cannot yet swim!)
Sustenance sustained in the glance upright,
onward-looking, towards the day comes to night!
No matter the brevity,
the continuity of gravity --
WE, THE PEOPLE,
live.
What else have we?
