It's a Little bit Fishy
I remember the waves rushing up and
Engulfing me in the sweet way water does.
I remember opening my eyes under that water,
Watching the world
Like I was a fish.
I remember coming up for air
And feeling so big in my little bathtub.
I remember squishing my feet in the sand and
Running when the waves threatened my toes.
I remember dancing around and
Flopping around in the sand
Like I was a Fish
Out of water.
I remember floating on my back and
Watching the clouds roll by and cover my golden sun.
I remember feeling the waves tickle me and
Wishing I could stay in the water forever
Like I was a fish.
I remember realizing for the first time that I was not like a fish and
That I could not live underwater
Because little girls can’t breath underwater
Like fishes do.
I remember crying and splashing in my bathtub
Because that’s where I was happy.
I remember walking into school on the first day and
Wishing I could be underwater instead.
I remember listening to people talk and murmur
As I silently walked by
If only I were a fish
I thought to myself.
As the time has gone by I have become
Distant with my childhood dream of being that fish
But don’t worry
I return to the water every now and then
Where the waves threaten my toes
And the sand swallows my toes
Because that is my happy place
And that is where you will find me.
