In a Moment
It takes but a moment for emotions to change
confidence to fail
pleasure to be replaced by pain.
Yesterday joy sparkled in your eyes like crystals
conviction supplied your soul with strength.
With open wings you soared through both sun and rain
but today in your cocoon you remain, unable to fly the extra length.
In a moment you traveled through life backwards
beginning as the butterfly, then shutting yourself in the cocoon.
What happened to your conviction, your strength?
The crystals in your eyes now melt down your cheeks, joy crushed like a deflated balloon.
It takes but a moment for emotions to change
confidence to fail
pleasure to be replaced by pain.
But as you remain the swathed caterpillar
as frustration bubbles and salty tears stain your cheeks
you’ve forgotten your strength doesn’t lie in accomplishments or looks or judgments
for in these you will fail; you’ll always feel small and meek.
Your strength comes from the wings you’ve forgotten were there
they’ve never left you – even in the cocoon.
Enchanted wings that lift you through clouds and supply the strength to soar
They are an identity, a love, a composition of life’s varying tune
It takes but a moment for emotions to change
certainty to be fulfilled
despair to be replaced by delight.
