Because It Wasn’t Real
When I heard you call my name,
I knew it wasn’t real.
But when I stopped to say hello
I saw you standing there,
Looking lonely and confused.
And then you told me
That you never really meant to find me,
That you were only there
Because of something else entirely.
I don’t know if I believe you,
Even though I want to.
I have heard your voice before,
And even though I don’t know you well,
I know when you are hiding something.
I gave up trying to tell you that
Way to long ago.
I have heard you call my name before,
And I never stopped to see if you were there
Because I knew it wasn’t real.
So what surprised me about you standing there,
Was that I stopped to check.
And then you said you hadn’t meant to be there.
Its not that I don’t trust you,
But belief is so similar to the truth
That I really can’t agree.
I always knew it wasn’t real.
