Mailboxes
Traveling down the street
I catch a glimpse
Of the aftermath of
Mischievous Troublemakers
Mailboxes their innocent victims
knocked off
smashed in
nailed back in place
or
duct-taped
too have fallen under,
given in to abuse
sturdy, ugly, plastic
mailboxes
but the admirable, the stubborn
without fail remain
they do not give in
continually replacing
the leftovers of
crime and adolescence
with dainty pieces of
cheap wood
which are at the least
pleasing
to the traveler's
eye.
