Highway Vines
The lingering seeds attach
To the impossible porous surface
Weakening its longing for flight
Soothing the ache, the bones bruise,
The hearts curdle, the minds scream,
To break away, detangle, take your
Own breath of real unshared air
This clean, lonely, concrete, deafening
Front line. Watching the metal trunks
Swiz by on the roots of armor bark.
Reaching out to embrace their family
Arms. Lingering on each anchor
Transferring memories of growing old
Forever seeing time pass with no Tim e
Measured only by growth rings. Invisible
Spawns bring life to death satisfy
The Mother’s demands. Smaller, creepers
Connect and weave the foliage web
Wilt and thrive on ribbed rocks
Remain rampart ruled. Breeching the
Barrier, thriving in the harsh, volatile,
Unprotected and vulnerable but separate.
In the midst of the war we are infiltrators
Sly and unwary
The foggy tendrils raise infant arms
To ballerinas salute to the green sky
Moisturized balmed and waxy leaves
Tremble in manmade wind and tunneling
Moles tumble under the defenseless barrier
Collecting information sucking it all in
To breathe the suns air
