With Eyes Wide Open
With eyes wide open
stumbling along
groups of prisoners
emaciated
starving
dying
they drive us with whips
with eyes wide open.
With eyes wide open
lying in bunks
from floor, to roof
each in a uniform
a number branded on the arm
staring
fearing
with eyes wide open.
With eyes wide open
they beat us
starve us
make us work
trudge the fields
carry metals
slaves
with eyes wide open.
With eyes wide open
everyday
the showers
where none come back
furnaces
smoke always pouring out
we walk by
with eyes wide open.
With eyes wide open
another one shot
another one buried alive
another starved
another beat
all
with eyes wide open.
With eyes wide open
led to the showers
the gas turned on
the bodies falling
breath is gone
falling
dying
with eyes wide open.
With eyes wide open
mounds of bodies
too many to burn
no time to hide
left to rot
dissolving
smelling
reminding
with eyes wide open.
