Burn Out
This school was too big for me
When I was here before it started
So were you, standing alone
I stared for a minute until I gave up
This class was too much for me
Until you turned around and spoke up
I couldn’t believe it, sitting there
Listening to you go on
This dare was too risky for me
As I stood in the cool night waiting for you
My heart pounding, the wind swirling
Then you met me at the end of my street
This secret was too extreme for me
Your hand connected with her cheek
My brother saw, my brother told
And he warned, but I won’t listen
This life is too boring for me
So I get in your car and you drive
We drive until the lights burn out, our hearts burn out
And our past lives are burned out with them
