Where I'm From
I am from constant change,
Growing, Blossoming, Repeating forever
I am from eloquent underwater scenes
and glistening gold treasures
I am from seascapes,
sand between my toes, and
watching the skyline explode into vivid colors
I am from clay courts,
from strung rackets and fuzzy yellow balls
I am from starving for perfection,
from craving acceptance and admiration.
I am from “Be careful” and “I love you”.
I’m from roaming dirt roads on a sunny Tuesday afternoon
to discover what others left behind from their adventures.
I’m from Deborah, Robert, Joaney and John
From endless trips to the hospital, from airplanes and cutout forts
I am from performing the beats given to me.
From Semper Fidelis, always faithful.
Teaching honor, truth, persistence and self acceptance.
Im from a room full of decorative pillows, yet keeping
my own ratty one since my first day on earth.
I’m from saturday morning cartoons, pancakes,
and creating shapes in the condensation on my mirror.
I am from leaves crunching under the one pair
of boots that I HAD to have.
I’m from sharing dreams, some foggy, others clear like crystal.
But, I’m also from keeping thoughts to myself in fear of rejection,
and believing in the one thing that others don’t.
