Ode to Lasagna
I can picture the Italian masterpiece,
fresh out of the oven,
steaming hot,
with the gooey parmesan cheese
melting off the sides of the pan.
Five thick layers of noodles,
with a taste of pasty tomato sauce and rich ricotta cheese
in every bite.
I can smell the fresh basil,
as the aroma floated beneath my nose.
The rich flavor tickled my taste buds,
as I took the first of many never ending bites.
I dream of a place where the tomatoes are always fresh,
and there is always plenty of lasagna to be eaten.
I remember the many Sunday afternoons of my childhood,
helping my mom to roll out the meatballs
and add the finishing touches
to this family secret recipe.
Lasagna brings family and friends together.
It brings laughter and good conversation
with the ones you care about.
Lasagna is a comfort food that warms the soul,
and warms the heart of others as well.
After one bite of lasagna,
you can’t help but to have another piece.
