My mind wanders freely
as I absorb the text on the page,
filled with more poetic license than I will ever hold
as a starving orphan
Everything smearing together
under these fluorescent lights,
and I can't turn off my wandering, trailing thoughts
reminding me of the laundry to be done,
or your lips
and the way your mood affects
the way you taste
because of the hypocritical statements you leave behind
that fill up my heart
and I cannot connect
to somewhere I do no belong
