Summer Storm
rolling clouds blue and gray,
raindrops on the hot concrete,
spice and freshness in the air,
coolness soothing relentless heat,
asphalt getting darker,
concrete darker still,
raindrops weighing roses,
collecting on windowsills,
lightning flashes purple,
a crack and then a roar,
birds tumbling through the wind,
still striving to soar,
clouds move on swiftly,
the storm is past,
here and gone so quickly,
last drops falling fast,
the earth drinks in the moisture,
and air begins to warm,
there is but a smell remaining,
the smell of a summer storm.
