Leaving Home
Mother, tell me of the road
that leads beyond this hold,
that winds its way beyond the hill.
Does it go on further till
it ends in the sunset's gold?
The road will take me far.
My future lies beyond.
I've enjoyed my time,
but now I must go.
Father, I thank you for your love,
But now I must ask,
The journey I shall take,
The morning I must leave,
The sunrise in the distance,
my home far behind,
Will you continue on?
With me in your memory?
Now I will start anew.
A life all my own.
A child mine alone.
Speak softly to my child fair,
Nor raise your hand to me.
For they are quick to take offense,
and quicker to champion me.
