The Subway
I’m lying at the bottom of the subway
It’s cold down here
The rail feels hard and foreign
Rejecting my physiology
I’m not sure how I got here
Not sure why my body is spread-eagled on the ground
I don’t know why but,
I find the rail comforting
I think it’s wrong to be here
Unnatural even
A human body,
Squandered by metallic structures
My heart pulses uncontrollably
The palpitations worry me
I want my heart to slow
Be calm, motionless, like the rail
I’m lying at the bottom of the subway
Completely alone
Senses activated, yet dormant
I think I’d like to leave
